All Together Brown Bag Lunch

Williamsburg Baptist Church

“Reentry” into communities is difficult for the majority of prisoners leaving their incarceration. The returning individual has to overcome stereotyping and a multitude of immediate living issues. The community has to absorb an unknown quantity with a past to question. Typical issues are: money for daily living expenses, housing, job availability, clothing, transportation, a driver’s license, and food. None of these are provided by state and county systems upon release. Advice (only) in overcoming these immediate requirements is provided in varying degrees by the releasing agency.

Barbara Slayden, past executive director of Offender Aid and Restoration Richmond, will speak and take questions on this difficult community issue at All Together’ s Brown Bag Lunch discussion, on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Williamsburg Baptist Church,227 Richmond Road at 12:00 noon. Ms. Slayden has worked in this arena for over 24 years.
