Music Director

Kim Ness

Kim is thrilled to be joining the UU community and serving as the Music Director starting this summer of 2022. She is currently Director of Choirs for Lafayette High School, having just completed her fourth year there. She has an extensive musical background – her grade school years were filled with piano lessons, the school orchestra, and musical theater, and she grew up participating in (and eventually leading) the Youth Band at church. She holds a B.A. in Music from William & Mary where she conducted the W&M Chamber Orchestra and Cleftomaniacs as well as sang in the W&M Women’s Choir and the Botetourt Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Jamie Bartlett. She then received a master’s degree from East Carolina University in Music Performance: Choral Conducting. There she conducted various collegiate ensembles, acted as a Graduate Assistant, and sang in the world-renowned ECU Chamber Singers. The next two years were spent doing adjunct work in the ECU School of Music teaching undergraduate conducting and applied voice before taking her current position at Lafayette High School and moving to Williamsburg in 2018, where she lives with her partner Mike, their three cats (sisters Zelda and Midna, and “stepbrother” Stewie), and probably way too many plants.
