“When Justice Gets Religion: the Role of Churches in Public Controversies” by Rev. Preston Moore, Co-minister

Most UUs are firm believers in separation of church and state, and at the same time, strongly support active involvement of their church in social justice movements. Most UUs strongly condemn the way some churches claim Jesus as their precinct captain, and at the same time, see profound spiritual objections to many of the policies adopted by our political leaders. In the midst of too much and too little involvement, and the right and wrong kinds of involvement, can we come to a generalizable conception of what role is appropriate for religion in public controversies?
