Fun and Fellowship!

One of the most consistent themes we saw during the Visioning Circles process is that folks want to be together and to have fun. No surprise, and we are listening! The sabbatical team and program council have been working with you to fill those needs and we look forward to some fantastic events this year. Here is a little update of what has happened so far…

On May 15th the WUU had its inaugural Slo-Pitch Softball game at the JCC Rec Center. This is a fun activity for ALL – whether you are 5 or 95 years old, whether you can hit a ball or can’t hit the broad side of a barn, you are WELCOME and encouraged to join in the fun. A huge thank you to Ruth Hopkinson for getting the ‘softball’ rolling and all the participants for their enthusiasm! NEXT Game – Sun, June 12th at 5PM, same location. Questions: softball@wuu.org

In May the after-service coffee began to flow again. With teams of 3 – 5 volunteers per month, we hope to have fresh hot beverages all year long. We still need more volunteers, so if you can help, please sign up HERE. It’s low key, most of the work can be done while you are watching the service in the lobby, and you will be finished about 30 minutes after the service concludes.

Nan Hart is organizing an outing to see Aida at the Williamsburg Players June 11th . David Hamilton and Helen Hansen are working on a Friday Night Coffee House in the near future. Jessica O’Brien is planning a cookout for us at the end of July – stay tuned for details. Several folks are in the planning stages of a Cornhole Tournament as well as a Game Night – a potluck too! As we get closer to the holidays, we will start signups for a Holiday Cookie Swap, a possible field trip to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and more. If you can help any of these teams on the planning or achievement of the event(s), please sign up HERE and be sure to watch the Spiral for updates as well as the WUU Social Media pages.

Another great opportunity for Fellowship, Fun and Fundraising is the first Online Auction for WUU that Katrina Landon is organizing with a great team of volunteers. Tentatively scheduled for the first full week of November, much of the work will happen online and behind-the-scenes. However, everyone will have an opportunity to participate in a fun party to culminate the event. If you are able to help with the technical side of things, or would like to help with the party planning, contact Katrina or sign up HERE.

We thank you all for your participation, past, present, and future. There is much to do and much fun to look forward to. If you have any questions or would like further information about any of these items, please email Fellowship@wuu.org.
