We are committed to being an antiracist, anti-oppressive congregation. We celebrate people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations. We honor our spiritual connection to the earth and all living things.

Lighting the Chalice
with words by Gregory Pelley
Susan Walkley
And so we gather, from the ebb and flow of our lives
Thirsty for connection to ourselves
Thirsty for connection to others
Thirsty for connection to the larger life.
As we light this chalice
May all who gather here be filled:
Filled with joy and hope
Filled with compassion and love
Here, may we be filled
So that we may pour ourselves out
into the world.

Twice a month we Share the Plate with local or nonprofit human service organizations that provide a much needed service to our community. It offers us an opportunity to extend our compassion to others in need. This week, your contributions will go to Motel Meals, which began as a Greater Williamsburg Outreach Mission project, but has been transferred to From His Hands, an organization of faith groups that addresses food insecurity locally. Participants are WUU, St. Martin’s, Williamsburg UMC, Hickory Neck, Bruton Parish, and Rotary Club, who are expected to supply their own meals to be delivered once a month. WUU and some of the other partners purchase 20 family size meals at $11.00 each from Meals on Wheels for our team to deliver to families in four area motels on the second Wednesday of each month. The families are extremely grateful to receive a delicious, nutritious meal every Wednesday and we appreciate the opportunity to provide a welcome service to our neighbors. If you would like to volunteer to join the team, please contact team leader Trenna Tankersley at trennatankersley@gmail.com. As always, your generous support makes our world a little better!

Extinguishing the Chalice
Susan Walkley
We extinguish this flame,
but not the light of truth,
the warmth of community,
or the fire of commitment.
These we carry in our hearts
until we are together again.
