We all went outside into the playground, and Jess led us in pretending that we were on a space shuttle that was stuck in space just short of its docking station and safety! Here, you see the kids working together to place stepping blocks on the ground so that they can move from the stranded shuttle to the safety of the space station. We had kids as young as five years old working with high schoolers. Not only did the kids get time outdoors experiencing problem solving, they got to explore the theme of welcome in Religious Education. How is it that we can be radically welcoming of others when we have differences? What if one person is five and the other person is 16? Can we still work together? Yes! A big thank you goes out to Dr. Jess Hench for coming to help us explore how working with folks different from us can empower and enrich our own Unitarian Universalist faith. Way to go Jess, and way to go kids!
