June 2024 President’s Report from Congregational Meeting

by Helen Hansen, Board President

I am honored to serve this congregation as Board President and have spent my first month appreciating the collegiality, seriousness, and dedication of this Board; new members Deb Fabian, Linda Cole, and Eva Burke, and continuing members Les Solomon, Franz Gross, Phoebe Kent, Linda Lane-Hamilton, and Angela Surber. I also thank the “retired” members of last year’s Board who led us through the transition from Rev. Laura to Rev. Michelle – Pat Russo, Kerry Mellette, Melissa Stump, and Katrina Landon.

The Board has some important and exciting work to look forward to this year.

  • Board Meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month are in person and on Zoom, open to the congregation, as always.
  • Implementing the search for a Developmental Minister who will begin serving after Rev. Michelle leaves June 30, 2025.
  • Planning and implementing small group cottage meetings to hear the congregation’s input as the board determines 2 or 3 big goals for the coming years.
  • Participating in a resources audit with a consultant so that we can create a long term financial plan. We are responsible for making sure all of our resources are used wisely so that our UU values are evident to our congregation and shared with our community.
  • Continuing 3rd Sunday after service Board listening and informational conversations. Communication is a critical component of a healthy congregation.
  • Improving collaboration between Board and Program Council to support the rich and varied programming provided by the ministry teams. The Calendaring session [on June 2] with Rev. Michelle and ministry teams created an integrated year of Sunday worship, Activities, and Governance work.
  • Supporting our ongoing justice work, such as: Journey to Asylum, Welcoming Congregation, Winter Shelter and other community outreach missions, Criminal Justice projects, UU the Vote, and Share the Plate. Volunteers are welcome – and necessary – for all of these activities that put our values into action.
  • Supporting our RE program for children and faith development for adults.

I appreciate your presence Sunday Mornings, and hope you will join me in experiencing the activities, events, and small groups that enhance our spiritual lives, friendships, knowledge, and connections. You will find those opportunities in the weekly Spiral and on our new website, scheduled to go live soon.
