Notes from the Minister, June 2021

June 2021

Dear WUU Community,

Last month, I got to see my best friend, real and in person, for the first time in over a year. Just getting to hug her was amazing. I get a bit teary all over again just thinking about it.

My fervent hope is that you too have been able to savor reunions like this. It’s been a joy to hear from many of you about visits and vacations with family and friends. What a difference from last summer, when we mostly cancelled our plans and hunkered down and got used to being isolated and alone as the pandemic raged. Human beings are not meant to live apart from one another, deprived of touch and presence. We’ve always known this, but now we know it bone-deep.

Here at WUU, Zoom has been an incredible gift. But many of us long to be back in person. Our board and our reopening task force are working hard to lay the groundwork for reopening the building safely, a little at a time, mindful of the need to protect those who aren’t yet vaccinated. (By the way: have you filled out the reopening survey yet? Responses are due on June 6.)

It’s been wonderful to see how quickly conditions have improved in our area—may that continue! Though we don’t have definite news to share yet about Sunday mornings, we hope to announce some next steps sometime this month. The main WUU building is already open to small groups; just contact office@wuu.org to reserve a time.

In the meantime, I wish you a season of renewal and reconnection with loved ones. May you be well and safe, and may joy find you over and over again.

In faith and with love,

Rev. Laura
