Sign up now to write voter mobilization postcards this fall!
Election season is coming up again, and Virginians will soon begin casting votes in the races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Delegates, and various local offices. Reclaim Our Vote is calling on us again to write postcards to help voters of color exercise their right to vote.
There will be two rounds of postcarding this fall. The key dates are shown below. The first will focus on reminding people that Early Voting begins on September 17. The second round will remind people to vote on or before Election Day (November 2).
Round 1: Early Voting
August 8: Supplies available for pickup
September 1: Start mailing postcards
September 11: Deadline to mail postcards
September 17: Early voting begins
Round 2: Get Out the Vote

September 15: Supplies available for pickup
October 23: Deadline to mail postcards
November 2: Election Day
If you are willing and able to write cards for EITHER round (August 8-September 11 and/or September 15-October 23), please submit this form to let me know how many cards to order for you in each round. If you want to write cards for Round 1, please submit the form by August 1. If you are interested in Round 2 only, you can submit the form anytime through September 8.
A script and all supplies will be provided and can be picked up from my house or delivered to your door if you live in the Greater Williamsburg area. Most people purchase their own postage, but if cost is an issue, I can provide stamps for you. (You can indicate on the form if you would like stamps provided.) Please be aware that postal rates are going up as of August 29. If you plan to write cards in either round, I encourage you to buy your stamps before August 29 to take advantage of the current rate ($0.36 as opposed to $0.40).

If you are not able to write cards but you’d like to help with a financial contribution, I welcome donations of any amount. Your contributions will offset the cost of the postcards, labels, printer toner, and postage (for those who cannot assume that cost themselves). For reference, supplies for 100 cards cost about $5 without postage, $41 with postage. You can make a donation by credit or debit card at the WUU online giving page. (Make your donation by selecting “Social Justice” from the drop-down menu and entering “UU the Vote” in the Comments field.) Donations that exceed expenses will be directed to WUU’s Social Justice Committee.
