Sunday, November 3, at 10:00 am: “Three Spiritual Practices for Realizing Connection,” Ben Thacker-Gwaltney & John Chowning, Guest Worship Leaders
In the spiritual life of the Williamsburg Buddhist Sangha, we regularly make use of three ancient mediation practices built on the teaching of The Four Immeasurables: loving-friendliness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. These help us realize in ourselves the mind states of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, states based on love, kindness, and compassion for all beings. In this election season, it’s a good time to work with these practices of connection for those we like and dislike, those we support and oppose, and those we understand and misunderstand. In this way, we realize the deep interdependence of all sentient beings that we can quickly forget in our daily life.
Sunday, November 10, at 10:00 am: “Staying Grounded, Staying Connected,” Rev. Michelle Collins, Interim Minister
There’s a lot of uncertainty in our world about some things, and certainty about others. As we come together in the wake of our national and local elections, let’s look for reminders on how to find our grounding, strengthen our community, and keep our values front and center.
Sunday, November 17, at 10:00 am: “Can Beauty Save the World?” Rev. Michelle Collins, Interim Minister
Fyodor Dostoyevsky once said, “Beauty will save the world.” What does this even mean? What can beauty do for our world and our lives, and is it possible that it could make a difference?
