Sunday, June 4, at 10:00 am: “Nothing Lowly in the Universe” – The Joy of Coming to Life, led by Steve DeLaney, Guest Worship Leader
This is a beautiful time of year where we get to see flowers bloom, birds hatch their young, and fawns wobble on unsteady legs in the fields. The world comes to life in a remarkable way. Join Steve DeLaney on June 4 as we reflect on the joy of watching things burst into being, and look for insights into our own spiritual, family, and communal lives.
Steve DeLaney has worked in ministry with young people for over 20 years – in outdoor education, jail ministry, urban service, parish ministry, and as a high school teacher and campus minister. He has a MA in Theology and an MFA in Creative Writing. His passions include literature and writing, hiking, and gardening. He lives with his wife, Allison, and their three kids (and their dog Peach!) in Williamsburg, VA. You can find him on his blog: somedelaney.wordpress.com.
Sunday, June 11, at 10:00 am: “Supporting and Celebrating LGBQTIA+ Pride,” led by Rev. Laura Horton-Ludwig, Minister, & the Welcoming Congregation Team
In 1999, June was designated as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month thirty years after the beginning of the gay rights movement. In the ensuing 24 years there has been much to celebrate and much to mourn. Friends, family, and allies, please join us as we share our world with you.
On May 6, 2007, when we completed the process to become a Welcoming Congregation, we promised “to be intentionally affirming and actively supportive of persons of all sexual/affectional orientations and gender identifications as they seek a spiritual haven to search for truth and meaning.”
However, the Work of Welcome is not finished; is not done. So, we are in the process of reaffirming our commitment. In this renewal process, the second of five practices required is to incorporate welcoming into an ordinary worship service. There will be nothing ordinary about this particular Sunday.
