Sunday, July 7, at 10:00 am: “Heroes, Villains, and the Stories We Tell,” Rev. Max Blalock, Guest Worship Leader
What do we do when the stories we’ve been told, about ourselves, others, our communities, and our families, are not the whole truth? What do we do when we open ourselves to different stories and different truths? Come join us for a conversation about new stories and new possibilities for us all.
Max Blalock served as the Campus Minister at Wesley, the campus ministry at W&M sponsored by the United Methodist Church for 14 years. A native of Alabama, Max and his partner Beck have two sons, James, 17, and Daniel, 13, and two cats, Yogi and Boo Boo. He’s a graduate of the Claremont School of Theology and an ordained United Methodist pastor. He loves people, animals, laughter, and sarcasm, not always in that order. He is passionate about working together for the common good, especially for those folks most marginalized and oppressed in our communities.
Sunday, July 14, at 10:00 am: “The Interdependent Web: What Animals Teach Us about Human Nature and Our Covenant to Protect All Beings from Exploitation,” Jennifer Springsteen, Guest Worship Leader
In this service, we will focus on our relationship with animals and what they teach us about ourselves. Jennifer will offer some personal stories and also speak to the sacrifices animals make on our behalf (whether or not they wanted to).
Jennifer Springsteen is a hospital chaplain and writer in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She lives with her husband Joe, Sam the cat, and keeps her refrigerator and laundry room open for her daughter Charlotte, a soon-to-be college sophomore.
