Whither Tradition in a Nontraditional Church?

Didn’t many of us choose UUism because we wanted to be free of the heavy hand of traditional religion? But in a world in which change has taken on a continuously near-chaotic quality, don’t many of us also cherish the stability and familiarity of doing certain things in the same way each time, over time? Can we finesse this problem by having a “living tradition”? How does all of this relate to the basic values and mission of our church? Question questions questions, as WUU turns 19 on Charter Sunday, 2008.
